Decembrists were representatives of the nobility. They organized an uprising in December 1825 and were exiled to Siberia. They had left a bright track in the culture of Irkutsk. The wives of many Decembrists followed their husbands to Siberia and now they are considered the ideal of a Russian woman. The museum includes the homesteads of Sergey Volkonsky and Sergey Trubetskoy, who lived in Irkutsk after their exile. You can get acquainted with the interior and life of the nobility and see the authentic things which used to belong to the Decembrists. Every year there is the “Decembrists' evening parties” festival traditionally held by the museum.
